Sorry, but I could not connect to the characters and there were some things that "bothered me" they may not bothered other readers, hence, I felt uncomfortable reading it and that for me is not a good read! It kin Sorry, but I could not connect to the characters and there were some things that "bothered me" they may not bothered other readers, hence, I felt uncomfortable reading it and that for me is not a good read!
It kind of affected my perception of the hero and could not warm up to him after that! Gina should have never waited that long with her secret It was even mentioned that Mike left College and protecting his career was not needed.. Mike carried Gina in his heart even after getting married and hurt his wife because he was unable to return her love I would appreciate not reading that kind of stuff..
There was mentioning of a hook up co-worker of Mike and his thought were annoying at best I don't really care how great the sex with her was He already slept with Gina and when the co-worker rand for sex he did not clarified with her that he would not be interested with her anymore She asked him if he could call her later on and he said yes! So he already was committed to Gina wanting to have a second chance with her, but did not denied the other woman that there may be future hook up with her?
I just did not liked that and my dislike for him just got bigger! Not my "type of hero" I would be swoon over! May 20, Jena aka Tina marked it as avoid Shelves: cheating.
Meanwhile, the hero cheated on the h and she never knew. Why would anyone want to read this mess of a romance novel? This book had caught my eye because I was a yearbook teacher for almost 20 years. Although this particular story has a very sensitive subject matter, it is handled very well.
Gina and Mike are the MC's and Gina ends up getting raped by her math teacher, a violent rape and I realize all rapes are violent that was the impetus for her going after a career as a sex crimes lawyer.
Gina and Mike end up going their own ways but some 20 years later they are reunited. Both have had their tragedies in li This book had caught my eye because I was a yearbook teacher for almost 20 years. Both have had their tragedies in life. Both have uphill battles. But one thing I enjoyed is that they were able to still have a sense of humor and it lightened some of the heaviness of the story. Recommendation: I taught high school for 25 years, and after reading this I would say it's definitely not recommended to young teens.
I think the very youngest reader should be a mature 17 or even 18 years old mainly due to how graphic it is. Aug 23, Jenn rated it really liked it Shelves: own. Great read! I downloaded the Kindle sample first where I am a cheap library girl, and loved what I read.
Thank you Carrie Filetti, for introducing me to the book. I connected with Gina on a personal level somewhat unfortunately and understand her actions throughout her journey. I understand trauma and a few types of loss, and this book is amazing at portraying both while maintaining the hope that always exists: one can move forward, heal, and find happiness.
It just takes time, support, and un Great read! It just takes time, support, and understanding from others who will love you unconditionally. Jun 19, Jane rated it it was ok. Then it felt like WTH? Gina was in a relationship with Mike in high school.
And to make matter worst, he threaten to Gina that he'll ruin Mike's baseball life if she tells anyone what happen.
And she did kept quiet for 20 years. Well, they broken up cos she couldn't bear to hurt Mike further I was so looking forward to this book. Well, they broken up cos she couldn't bear to hurt Mike further. Cos she felt traumatized and relive the incident again when he touch her. And she felt that he deserve someone better. And another 10 years later, they met each other at their high school reunion.
Well, from here.. Everything seems nice and sweet right?? Well, what I couldn't apprehend is After what happen to Gina and the career she picked, she still remain silent??
I mean she's an adult at the age of She's a prosecutor in children crime section, so she should voice out what happen when she's 17 right?? Instead everything remain silent until the day that coach died. And, Sam who claims that he knew what happen chose to keep quiet?? We are not talking about cheating during the exam, we are talking about rape. Classmate being raped and you kept quiet and wait for the victim to voice out.
And Mike is going to have sex with a bimbo when he went to a party but was stop by Sue. And both of them kept this a secret from Gina. I was like what? What a good friend. Conversation between Mike and Jake is like friends talking with each other. And here we are talking about a 10 year old. Talking about hot girlfriend. Talking about his father is stupid. When Gina revealed the secret to Mike, his reaction seems normal.
I mean not that worked up. And he blame Gina for keeping quiet. Well, this part I agree with him. Then there's a scene when a woman call Mike cos she want to have fun. Then Mike told her no and he sort of compare the sex with her and Gina. I was like what the hell.
And they proclaim their love for each other. Tbh, I can't see much love. Or should I say there's not much of connection between the two. Sadly, there's a lot of potential to this book but too bad.. I'm still thinking if I should move to sue and Sam story.
Enjoyed this second chance romance. She was raped by her calc teacher who she babysits for who is also Mike's baseball Coach. He threatens to make Mike lose his scholarship chances if she tells anyone. So she keeps quiet about the rape. This also causes her to pull away from Mike despite still being in love with him and protecting his future. She goes on to become a prosecutor in the sex crimes division. Gina finally feels strong enough to tell her best friend and her boyfriend what happened to her back in high school and the reasons why she kept it from them.
She becomes pregnant after 2 nights with him and weeks after leaving and decides to come back to town to be with Mike. Some of the year book posts and updates at the end of the story were enlightening, for some I thought wasn't necessary. As to my tags about cheating, Mike went to a party without Gina and got drunk and was making out and about to have sex with a classmate when Sue the best friend stopped him. They both decided never to tell Gina about it.
Then at the end of the book Gina recalls J. I believe she was still with Mike since she made reference that was the time J. May 01, Jeanne rated it it was amazing Shelves: chick-lit , fiction. Gina and Mike are high school sweethearts. Gina breaks up with Mike seemingly out of the blue and breaks his heart. For 20 years, she's kept the secret of why she did.
Neither found another to replace the love they shared. I enjoyed this book and was constantly pulling for the title characters to get back together and find some way to heal. The secret was shocking and I understood then why Gina did what she did. I Gina and Mike are high school sweethearts. I feel the story was true to what that trauma would have done to a person. Gina took many years to work through her issues and it felt like it was a true story and not a work of fiction. High praise IMO.
I'd say this is definitely not a book for young or new adult genre readers. A few subjects are for mature audiences and I'm not sure that younger readers can appreciate them. I look forward to reading about Sue and Tom next. Well I found it on Amazon as a free book, and I really loved the blurb. It's a sweet story about a two people who meant to be. They were together in high-school but something happened what shattered Gine into million pieces.
When her teacher raped her and threatened her to destroy Mike life and career- of course she choose her love, and remain quit But she can't be the same with Mike, when it comes to something touchy she freaks out. She close him off, and let him go to find someone who can love Well I found it on Amazon as a free book, and I really loved the blurb. She close him off, and let him go to find someone who can love him as mush as he deserve Sometimes I lost connection with the story, I loved the main idea, and there are some heart rending part, but the full story is like a roller-coaster.
But it was good to read. Sep 05, Carrie Filetti rated it it was amazing. How refreshing that it captured me! Each page kept me turning and staying up late for. It was nice getting a taste of high school again and bringing two students back together as adults. I look forward to each new book in this series. What a clever idea to take a year book and form stories around students and what happened to them and who they became.
What a great storyteller! Sep 19, T. Well done story line and I like how the sensitive subject matter was handled. It was a little redundant in parts, but not so much that it ruined the flow of the book. I enjoyed the characters and wished I'd learned more about the intervening 20 years besides the fact Mike had a failed marriage and kid, and Gina was a sex crimes attorney. A good Well done story line and I like how the sensitive subject matter was handled.
A good story- excellent for the free price I paid. I would read more by this author! Buffy does an excellent job breathing life into her characters -- giving them each a unique voice and perspective -- as they struggle to overcome obstacles and tragic life circumstances in order to find their way back to one another. The dialogue is lively and often humorous which balances out the heavier parts and the plot moves along at a good clip, making this a quick, enjoyable read. Looking forward to reading more from this author!
Sep 01, Jeane rated it really liked it. I enjoyed reading 'Gina and Mike', it brought back some memories from high school but mostly the thought that I'm glad there wasn't a lot of conflict and sex going on when I was in High School, or at least I wasn't aware of it. The book was a very easy read and each chapter wanted you to read the next chapter before putting the book down.
This is a perfect vacation read, once you start you won't put it down until you're finished! The story keeps you entertained as the plot jumps between an event that happens in high school and the present day. It will make you laugh and make you cry, and realize the importance off friends and family - and how a secret can change your life. Can't wait for the next book to come out!
Aug 29, Amanda Lance rated it it was amazing. This was a beautiful novel that was heartbreaking and lovely. The emotional turmoil the characters endure is believable and I very much admire Buffy's ability to address the seriousness of the issues while maintaining the entertaining value of the work.

Sep 18, Tracy Lundy-Munn rated it it was amazing. Love the high school sweetheart story where they rekindle their romance and live happily ever after!!
Gina and Mike end up going their own ways but some 20 years later they are reunited. You know from the blurb what happened to Gina and that it tore her and Mike apart.
A good chunk of the beginning of this story takes place in the past showing you what happened. Ok so then we jump ahead 20 years and all I can think is wow that is a lot of wasted time.
Mike is this fantastic guy who loved his girl and had no clue what happened. Connect with friends, family and other people you know. Share photos and videos, send messages and get updates. Mike Perry The Ocean ft. Substitute Teacher Pt. Garvey s students try to convince him that club yearbook photos are not an elaborate ruse. Of course, I did the usual Twitter and Facebook, but I also employed some other tools that you might not be quite as familiar with.
